Careers at the West Brom

Here at the West Brom we’re proud of our reputation as the leading building society in Birmingham and the Black Country, a reputation that owes so much to the calibre of our people – their skill, dedication and creativity – and if that sounds like you then the West Brom really could be the place to carve out an exciting and rewarding career.

The West Brom has an impressive history, but we are a business with our eye focused very much on the future. As the 7th biggest building society in the whole of the UK with around 450,000 members, the West Brom has a tremendous amount to look forward to as a confident, modern and innovative organisation with the vision to make the most of our many strengths.

Your Career with us

At the West Brom, we believe in giving our very best, but we also want you to get the best out of your career with us. We will therefore invest in you and your talent.

Through development and training opportunities, you can improve and refine your skills – or discover new horizons and abilities you’d never previously thought of, giving you the confidence to make a real impact.

The Society also promotes a culture of encouragement and openness. This involves regular communications to keep you informed on what is happening in the business; at the same time, your feedback is welcomed on how we might be able to do things even better in creating a comfortable and pleasant working environment.

In all this, you’ll enjoy a wide-range of staff benefits, including recognition and reward schemes to highlight those who really are the best of the best – and that could well be you!

This is just a taste of what the West Brom can offer you – so, if you’ve got an appetite for an exciting and rewarding career, why not find out more on our menu. You’ll be glad you did.

Diversity and inclusion

We value people from all backgrounds and recognise the importance of diversity and inclusion. Having a workforce that is representative of the wide range of customers that we interact with on a daily basis means that we are better able to serve those customers and in turn our staff benefit as a result. The West Brom adopts progressive working practices in order to encourage a variety of lifestyles.

Our commitment is to foster a culture where our staff from whatever background feel that they can share our values, fulfil their potential and be appropriately rewarded. In order to meet this commitment we are developing a Diversity Strategy, to be launched in 2017 to focus on this area.

As part of this initiative we have signed up to the 'Women in Finance Charter' aimed specifically at increasing the levels of women in senior roles in the finance sector.

Our Executive sponsor for this initiative is Jonathan Westhoff, the Society's Chief Executive. We have set ourselves two targets for female representation, to be achieved by 2020 – that 30% of the Society’s Board will be female and that of those occupying positions in the senior management population 30% will be female.

These diversity and inclusion measures will form a part of the annual incentive plan for senior executives from 2017. We intend to set other diversity related measures in due course, in relation to other facets of diversity.

Investors in People

Our desire is to attract people who share our aims and ambitions – individuals with the talent, flair, and commitment to make the most of the many career opportunities the West Brom provides.

Whatever your interests or skills, whatever your hopes and potentials, if you’ve got what it takes to excel, we can help you take that talent further.

Maybe you have a gift for Customer Service or Administration. Perhaps your strengths lie in Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Marketing or Legal Services. It could be in one of our branches, or at the Society’s Head Office.
