The West Brom has been recognised for its work supporting local charities and community groups.
The Society was highly commended by judges in the Mortgage Finance Gazette Awards in the Community Services category for large lenders.
Judges noted the impact and creativity of the West Brom’s Community Counts campaign, which has been running throughout its branch network over the past year in partnership with the Mercian Community Trust.
Each branch has been allocated £1,000 to share between three local good causes, with customers having the final say on how the money is split. A total of £37,000 is being distributed through the scheme and to date 75 individual charities have received donations.
There was a further commendation for the West Brom in the Mortgage Finance Gazette Awards under Best Regional Building Society, a category which was compiled by the independent research company Defaqto.
James Wright, the West Brom’s Divisional Director for Marketing and E-Commerce, said:
"We are pleased to see the West Brom recognised as a leading building society by the industry through this prestigious awards scheme."
“Mortgage lending and supporting people into home ownership is a major part of our business and we pride ourselves on offering a competitive range of products.
But as a mutual organisation a key point of difference with the West Brom is our role in the local communities we serve. Community Counts is about helping those smaller charitable groups that carry out vital work but sometimes get overlooked.
We also encourage our members to get involved by voting for the charities they want us to assist.”
Now in its 14th year, the Mortgage Finance Gazette Awards acknowledges the achievements of the mortgage lending industry, everything from product innovation to utilising new technology.
The West Brom is the UK’s seventh largest building society providing a broad range of financial products and services, notably savings, investments and residential mortgages.
