Protecting Your Home

Your house is more than just a building, it’s your home and it’s important that you keep the outside and valuables inside protected. As well as looking after your mortgage and savings, as a mutual building society we also offer home insurance to protect your home and its contents.

Our home insurance is underwritten by Royal and Sun Alliance (RSA), one of the UK’s leading insurance companies, and is designed to reflect your family’s needs. The recent Customer Panel survey about Home Insurance, helped us gain an insight into the panel’s thoughts on purchasing home insurance and understand the factors that either attract or detract them when purchasing a policy.

We found that the majority (91%) of those that responded to the survey have home insurance in place, however we learnt that over half of these have not changed their insurance provider in the last 2 years. The main reason for this is because they believe that their current insurance provider offers them the best deal.

Of those that that don’t have home insurance in place, a third said it’s because they couldn’t afford it.

Respondents who had changed their policy in the last 2 years received a quote from a price comparison website, however interestingly, they explained that they would prefer to purchase the policy direct with the insurance provider if the deal/price was the same.

Regardless of whether the respondents have home insurance in place or not, the most important factors when it comes to looking for a home insurance policy is that the policy covers their insurance requirements as well as the price of the policy.

The results have really helped us to understand the important factors which influence a customer’s choice when comparing and purchasing a home insurance policy. We will continue to work hard with RSA, to ensure our home insurance meets our customer’s individual needs.

The Society is proud to help support customers to continually review their insurance policy; ensuring that the things they value are adequately protected.
