For many people, no other decision they make will have greater financial implications than taking out a mortgage.

Whether it be to secure their first home, climb the next rung of the property ladder or find a more competitive rate of interest versus their current deal, every decision regarding a mortgage can be hugely significant.

Against this backdrop, leading building society the West Brom is inviting both customers and non-customers to receive helpful advice when it hosts a Mortgage Open Day at its Walsall branch on Saturday, 24 February.

Personal mortgage consultants will be available from 9.30am until 3.30pm at the Bridge Street branch to have an informal chat about an individual’s borrowing needs.

Manager Lorraine Standring said: “This is our first Mortgage Open Day for people in Walsall and we are delighted to be offering specialist advice from a team of highly-qualified consultants.

“It’s a chance to speak to our advisers generally, but also find out more about the range of mortgage products and services available from the West Brom.”

While the mortgage event is open to anyone, there is likely to be strong interest from those in the first time buyer market.

The West Brom has recently strengthened its proposition for the next generation of home owners by introducing 95 per cent mortgages, which require a deposit of just five per cent of the property’s overall value.

It can also provide a Help to Buy: ISA for those who are saving specifically for their first home. This includes the opportunity to receive a government contribution of up to £3,000 to put towards a deposit, depending on how much money the individual is able to set aside.

Lorraine added: “Both these initiatives make the dream of home ownership a more realistic proposition for younger people in the West Midlands.”
