Bereavement charity Edward’s Trust has enjoyed a funding boost totalling nearly £28,000 as the West Brom building society’s charity of the year.

As well as funds to support the charity’s work, the year-long partnership has brought volunteers to the cause, who have spent time providing practical help carrying out maintenance work on the Trust’s headquarters in Edgbaston.

Fundraising activities organised by the West Brom have included cake sales, cycle rides, fun runs, assault course challenges and a golf day.

Edward’s Trust dates back to 1987 when Edward Dent died from a rare form of cancer at the age of seven.

His parents felt compelled to help others facing the same pain and loss and went on to set up the charity in Edward’s name.

Today the charity provides a wide range of support to bereaved families and children, as well as training and consultancy services for school staff, parents and others working with those trying to cope with the loss of a loved one.

Stephanie Bradbury, Head of Fundraising for Edward’s Trust, said: “To receive the support of the West Brom has been a massive boost and we cannot thank them enough for making us their nominated charity. 

“We have appreciated the financial support of donations from West Brom staff and customers through its 37-branch strong network, but we have also enjoyed practical help and forged some strong bonds with volunteers.”
