Making withdrawals from your account

You can request to withdraw money from your account online, in branch or by contacting us depending on the type of savings account you have. Withdrawals are usually processed within two working days.

Withdraw money from your online account

If you've registered to manage your account online, you can log in to the Savings Portal open_in_new and go to your account dashboard to request a withdrawal.

How long the money takes to reach your nominated account will depend on when we receive your withdrawal request.

If you request a withdrawal before 3pm the money should reach your nominated account by the end of the next working day, otherwise it'll get there within two working days.

As long as we've got your mobile number, we'll send you a text to confirm your request has been completed.

Withdraw money from your branch account

If you've got a branch account you can visit your nearest branch with your passbook to request a cash withdrawal, cheque withdrawal or an electronic withdrawal to a bank account in your name.

We can't process withdrawals from non-branch accounts at any of our branches.

If you're not able to visit a branch, you can also call our Customer Service team.

Or, you can send your passbook and withdrawal request to:

Savings Team
West Brom Building Society
2 Providence Place
West Bromwich
B70 8AF

We'll then send a cheque to the address we hold for you.

There are cash limits on the amounts you can withdraw from a Branch account, which may change from time to time. To check the limits, you can call our Customer Service team.

You can find your nearest branch here.

Withdrawals from fixed rate accounts

With a fixed rate account, you usually put your money away for a fixed period of time, so making early withdrawals can be restricted or incur penalties.

It's best to check the terms and conditions of your account - these will tell you exactly what you can do, and whether you'll need to pay any charges for taking money out during the fixed term.

Withdrawals from notice accounts

With a notice account, you usually need to give notice to make a withdrawal. How much notice you need to give depends on the account you've got - you'll find all the details in your account's terms and conditions.

You can give notice to withdraw online using the Savings Portal open_in_new.

Withdrawals from ISAs

If you still want to withdraw money from your ISA, you can - but remember to check the terms and conditions for your account in case there are any restrictions or early access charges.

How we keep your account secure

We put checks and measures in place to increase security for our customers, offering peace of mind that your money is in safe hands.

We may contact you if you request:

  • An electronic payment of £50,000.00 or more.
  • Any withdrawal accompanied by new nominated account details.

We'll complete security checks to confirm your identity before we process your withdrawal. It's important that you've provided a phone number as we won't be able to go ahead with it without speaking to you.

Common questions

If you're certain you want to close your account, you can find out what to do here.

Early withdrawals from fixed rate or notice accounts aren't usually allowed, but in exceptional circumstances, we may be able to help. We'll consider each case individually, so if you need urgent access to your savings, it's best to contact us.
