Our Charity of The Year 2025 – 2026

For lots of us, getting a job is the first step towards building the life we want. But sometimes, even that first step can be a struggle. That’s why we’re proudly partnered with JERICHO, an incredible local charity providing work opportunities for people facing challenges right here on our doorstep.

JERICHO are based in Balsall Heath, Sutton Coldfield and Kings Heath with a mission to support people into long term jobs and a brighter more secure future – a great match to our mission.

JERICHO operate seven business enterprises including woodwork, catering, cleaning, and construction. Their apprenticeships support people who need a helping hand with getting into work. They also support young people facing challenges at school, as well as survivors of modern slavery.

We have volunteered, fundraised and held work experience for JERICHO apprentices since the start of our partnership – and we can’t wait to provide even more opportunities!

More about JERICHO

Helping the community through grants

We’re passionate about supporting local charities and community groups and we do this through the Mercian Community Trust grant scheme. This is funded by our Community Account), which is in partnership with the Diocese of Lichfield. Thanks to the generosity of our Community Account members, we’re able to make a positive difference in our local communities.

Who we've helped

In 2025/26 we awarded over £17,000 in grants through the Mercian Community Trust. Anthony Allen from The Central Youth Theatre was one of these recipients:

“This will greatly support the work we do in the local Wolverhampton area as we rely solely on the generosity of local communities and businesses such as yourselves. We look forward to working closely with The Wolverhampton branch in the new year with our volunteering and fundraising opportunities. Thank you for your generosity.”

We love to volunteer

Giving time is just as important as giving money. Each year our colleagues are encouraged to spend two days volunteering within the community. In the last 12 months we have spent around 2,509 hours volunteering, that’s approximately 313 days, for local charities including:

  • Birmingham Children’s Hospital
  • Saltwell’s Nature Reserve
  • Compton Hospice
  • Mary Steven’s Hospice
  • Hope House Children’s Hospice

Educating the next generation

Around 67%* of young adults aren’t confident with managing their money. We believe that all young people should have access to financial education and feel money confident. During 2025, we ran financial workshops to nearly 3,000 local students.

Sessions we currently deliver:

  • Money-Go-Round – for primary children to learn the basic value of money.
  • Adapted Money-Go-Round - tailored to assist children with additional learning needs.
  • Financial Fitness – a workshop to prepare students for managing finances when they leave school/college.
  • Frauds and Scams – aimed at secondary and college students to help keep their money safe and spot a scam.

Could your students benefit from one of these sessions? Please send enquiries to community@westbrom.co.uk
