Mortgage overpayments

An overpayment is when you choose to pay more than your usual monthly mortgage payment. They can be a one-off lump sum or regular payments throughout the year.

By overpaying on your mortgage, you can save money on the total amount of interest you pay and clear your mortgage balance sooner.

Things to consider before making an overpayment

  • With some of our mortgages, there's a limit to how much you can overpay. We call this your overpayment allowance. If you go over this amount, you may have to pay an Early Repayment Charge (ERC). To find out how much you can overpay by without paying an Early Repayment Charge, chat to our customer services team or check your most recent illustration.
  • You'll still need to pay your usual monthly mortgage payment. Overpayments are an additional payment on top.
  • Once an overpayment has been made, it can't be refunded or used to reduce or pause any future monthly payments.

Change or cancel an overpayment

We need at least 10 working days notice before your next payment is due to make any changes.

Unfortunately, where an overpayment has already been made, it can't be refunded or used to reduce or pause any future monthly payments.
