Replica branch opens its doors at Black Country Living Museum

A replica West Brom branch opened its doors at the Black Country Living Museum on Saturday 8 July 2023, inviting visitors to meet new historic characters and learn from the past.

Part of the new Forging Ahead development, the branch replicates our former premises in Cape Hill, Smethwick, and is set in 1949, our centenary year.

Jonathan Westhoff, Chief Executive Officer, said: “We’re proud to be part of the Black Country Living Museum’s largest and most ambitious development since 1978. Our branch will provide a great reminder of what life was like during this period and highlights the key role a local building society had to play in facilitating home ownership, just as we do today.”

“We also hope to use the branch as an interactive learning space to engage with school children and young people about good money management, building on our already established financial education programme, which was delivered to more than 2,300 children last year.”

The branch opens alongside four brand-new shops – Burgin’s Newsagents, Laurie Thomas Hairdresses, Marsh & Baxter and Stanton’s Music Shop – and has been brought to life with invaluable support and donations from members and colleagues at the West Brom.
