West Brom Building Society boosts community support with first-ever Power of Attorney awareness sessions

West Brom Building Society has, for the first time, delivered a series of successful in branch awareness sessions to help customers and colleagues build confidence and understanding around the Power of Attorney (POA) process.

Led by the Society’s Legal and Secretariat team, the sessions took place across several branches, including Tipton, Kingstanding Bearwood and Perry Barr, with the most recent held in Shrewsbury.

The programme is designed to break down the jargon often associated with POA and give people clearer guidance on how it works in practice when supporting loved ones with their finances.

The West Brom colleagues welcomed customers for an open and informative discussion, encouraging attendees to ask questions, share personal experiences, and help give practical insights into what POA could mean for them and their families.

Sourish Mukherjee, Head of Secretarial Legal Services at the West Brom, said: “Power of Attorney is something people often hear about but don’t always fully understand, which can make it feel more complicated than it needs to be. More of our customers are now looking to put arrangements in place to support family members with their finances, especially as circumstances change later in life. That’s why we want to make the process straightforward and clear and help dispel some of the myths that can put people off.

“These sessions are about giving customers confidence and reassurance at what can be an emotional time. As our Chief People Officer and Group Secretary, Sophie Pazzaglia, said at one of the events, it’s where ‘law meets emotion’ and it really does. These are practical decisions, but they’re rooted in care for the people who matter most.”

The initiative supports the West Brom’s wider focus on giving local communities in its heartland’s clearer information and practical help with key financial choices.
