About the West Brom
West Bromwich Building Society was founded 160 years ago on St George's Day 1849 by 20 local citizens with the aim of helping local people to better themselves through personal savings and by buying their own homes at a time when mutuality was becoming a social and political force.
From these humble beginnings, the West Brom has grown to become the 8th largest building society in the UK with nearly 600,000 members. The leading regionally-based building society in the Black Country and Birmingham, the West Brom has assets of more than £8billion.
The West Brom employs 850 people and has a branch network predominantly located in the Society's heartlands of Birmingham and the Black Country as well as in Shropshire and the Welsh Borders.
The West Brom is committed to the principle of mutuality - owned by and run for the benefit of its members and supportive of the communities it serves.
The Society is committed to remaining an independent building society with a set of defining core values:
- Value-for-money products and services
- Security for investors
- Fair and honest dealings
- Friendly and professional service
- Local community support
