About the West BromWest Bromwich Building Society was founded 161 years ago on St George's Day 1849 by 20 local citizens with the aim of helping local people to better themselves through personal savings and by buying their own homes at a time when mutuality was becoming a social and political force. From these humble beginnings, the West Brom has grown to become the 6th largest building society in the UK with nearly 600,000 members. The leading regionally-based building society in the Black Country and Birmingham, the West Brom has assets of more than £8billion. The West Brom employs 800 people and has a branch network located in the Society's heartlands of Birmingham and the Black Country, as well as a presence in Wales. The West Brom is committed to the principle of mutuality - owned by and run for the benefit of its members and supportive of the communities it serves.
