Donations provide welcome relief

West Brom colleagues offer essential items for women fleeing abuse.

Staff at the West Brom have rallied together to create welcome packs for families seeking refuge from domestic abuse.

Branch teams and head office colleagues donated essential items including toiletries that can be offered to women and children arriving at the charity Black Country Women’s Aid.

Among the items collected were towels, flannels, hair brushes, shampoo, shower gel, toothbrushes, baby wipes and nappies.

Deborah Slater, Regional Fundraising Officer for Black Country Women’s Aid, said: “When families come to our refuges they have often had to leave their whole lives behind. They can find themselves without access to even basic items such as toiletries, so we try to make them feel welcome and comfortable by providing some essentials to get them through those challenging first few days.

“The West Brom were brilliant in answering our call for help, gathering together a whole range of useful items we can pass on to those who really need them.

“It will make a genuine difference to women who are trying to rebuild their lives again after the trauma of domestic violence.”

Black Country Women’s Aid is the West Brom’s nominated charity partner for the year. Based in Sandwell, the charity supports around 8,000 victims of abuse and violence every year.

More than £23,000 has been raised since the partnership began last May through activities such as cake bakes, raffles, book sales, dress-down days and a golf tournament.

Communications Manager Jim King said: “The West Brom has a proud history of supporting causes in the local community and everyone has shown incredible generosity and goodwill since we first linked up with Black Country Women’s Aid.

“It is very rewarding to know that the money we raise will help to strengthen the vital care services the charity provides to those facing adversity.”
