Registering a power of attorney

You'll need to register a power of attorney with us before you can use it to manage a donor's accounts.

Register the lasting power of attorney with the Offcie of the Public Guardian (OPG)

Before you can register with us, you'll need to register the lasting power of attorney (LPA) with the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG)open_in_new.

Once you've been registered, you can start acting as the attorney.

Create a digital LPA access code

The donor or attorney can also create an LPA access code - this allows you to share a digital version of the LPA with us instead of the registered paper version.

More about access codes open_in_new.

Register the power of attorney with us

Complete your application form

You'll need to send us the following documents:

  • Completed power of attorney application form.
You can find registration forms for savings and mortgages in our forms library.
  • Either the original power of attorney document, certified copy, or access code.
Certified copies must have the solicitor’s signature, name, firm and address clearly legible on every page.
If the power of attorney is an enduring or lasting power of attorney, this must be a property and affairs power of attorney. (We don't allow health and wellbeing power of attorney documents to be registered on savings accounts).
  • ID documents for the donor and the attorney.
If the attorney isn't a West Brom customer, we'll attempt to verify their identity electronically. But if we can't electronically identify anyone who will be connected to the account, we'll write and request documents to confirm their identity instead.
For more of the types of ID needed, read our important information on ID leaflet.
