For customers wanting to offer a spare room:

If you are looking to offer a spare room or space and have a residential mortgage, this will be possible under an Excluded Licence Agreement. The licence is a simple way of setting out the agreement between you and your guest(s). To find out more information about the agreement visit Homes for Ukraine scheme: frequently asked questions - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

For customers wanting to offer a space with a Buy to Let mortgage:

If you are looking to offer a vacant property where you have a Buy to Let mortgage, this will be classified as having a tenant under a new special Excluded Tenancy Licence to help speed up the process. Similar to a tenancy agreement, this license is a way of setting out an agreement between you and your guest(s). Other things you should consider:

If you have a Shared Ownership or Help to Buy mortgage with us, you should also contact the landlord (e.g. the registered provider/ Housing Association) to let them know your application has been approved.

If you have a leasehold property, you should check the terms of your lease prior to signing up to the scheme. For more guidance, visit https://www.lease-advice.org/

You should also consider if you have adequate home insurance in place as this is a requirement of your mortgage. You can find out more by reading the Association of British Insurers statement.

For customers currently experiencing financial difficulty:

If you would like to become a sponsor and are currently experiencing financial difficulty or are in arrears, please contact us to discuss your circumstances. We are supportive of the scheme and want to make sure our customers do not experience any financial difficulty as a result of participating. We ask customers to think carefully about the additional costs that will be incurred by having more people in your home. You can also find free and impartial money guidance on the Money Helper website.

If you are taking part in the scheme, you are still required to meet your monthly mortgage payments.
