Believe it or not, the average cost of a funeral in 2016 was over £3,897*. And, as the graph below shows, if costs continue to increase at the rate seen in the past, by 2021 they could be as much as £4,779.**

How does it work

The Funeral Plan is a simple way for you to take care of your funeral arrangements. It allows you to pay in advance, meaning when the time comes, your family will not be asked for a penny more for the services included in the plan.

Furthermore, a plan gives you the reassurance that your wishes are documented, so you’ll help save your loved ones money and unnecessary worry.


Take control of funeral costs

As well as making your funeral wishes known, the Funeral Plan also offers three ways to pay for your funeral in advance. You can find out more about these in the section below or by speaking to a member of staff in your local branch.

If you have savings, investments, or even a life insurance plan in place, you might think you don’t need a Funeral Plan. However, for a cremation, this kind of plan guarantees to cover the services included, no matter how much prices rise or how long you live - which other savings and investments cannot guarantee to do.


Support for your family at a difficult time

A further advantage is that when the time comes, your family won’t be left wondering what type of service you wanted. One call to Dignity will set your plan in motion, helping to remove the worry of finding a Funeral Director, making all the arrangements and dealing with payments for the services included in the plan. They’ll receive support and guidance from a dedicated and professional Dignity Nominated Funeral Director to put the plan in action, as well as emotional support from Dignity’s 24 hour telephone bereavement advice and counselling service.




Choose from three different ways to pay

  1. You can pay for a Prepaid Funeral Plan in one lump sum to Dignity.
  2. You can pay for a Prepaid Funeral Plan across 12 monthly instalments to Dignity.
  3. With an Insured Funeral Plan, as long as you’re aged 50 to 80 you can spread the cost by paying monthly into a life insurance policy.

If you pay in one go, or across 12 monthly instalments, you’ll be freezing costs for the funeral services in the plan at today’s prices.

Or you can spread the cost with an Insured Funeral Plan by paying monthly into a life insurance policy provided by AXA Wealth Ltd trading as SunLife, which will pay out a cash sum to Dignity upon your death, as long as you’ve had the plan for at least two years. Dignity will then provide the funeral services included in the plan. Just be aware with this option that you must keep paying your premiums until you’re 90 or your death if earlier. If you stopped your policy would end, you wouldn’t get anything back and your funeral services would not be provided.
